Craft Farm 2025
Charcoal Retort Firing and Artist's Charcoal Drawing - Flax Crafts - Natural Colour - Willow Weaving
In July 2025 we had the first ever Craft Farm Day to launch the small scale charcoal retort designd by Professor Peter Oakley, RCA
The concept of the craft farm is to use the field as a source of craft materials, either specifically grown or naturally occurring and foraged. There are many natural dyes to be found in the hedgerows and trees such as hedge bedstraw, buddleia, willow and we grow flax, sorghum and wheat for fibre, corn dollies and broom making. The willow is used for basketry and other building projects, also as a dye plant and for making charcoal.
Many lovely people came to join us at the flax field for a day of experimental craft farm activities with Vicky Putler, Professor Peter Oakley, Hilary Burns + Alex Fasoli and Jane Deane.
