The Flax Project at Snapdragons, Plymouth
Prior to the formation of the CIC, in June 2021 we planted some flax in the grounds of Snapdragons, Victoria Park in Plymouth. We created a flax circle echoing the Richard Deacon sculpture, Moor, that towers over the site. With the help of local volunteers we harvested this flax in September 2021 and left it to dry on site. In November 2021 we launch a programme of workshops at the Village Hub teaching the process of turning flax fibre into linen. The aim is to connect participants to nature, take them on journey from field to fabric, learn the crafts of flax and linen, and experience the benefits of nature and creativity for mental and physical health.
